Falkirk LFC Reserves v Glasgow Girls (Friendly)
Sunday 12th February '12 @ Alloa Academy
The Reserves played their second pre-season friendly on 3G at Alloa Academy against Glasgow Girls. It was a fiercely contested match from start to finish but the speed and experience of the home side proved to be too strong on the day.
Falkirk went one-up after Aimee knocked on a Shirley corner and striker Susie nodded it home in home. From the re-start the speed of Rachel up front and Diane wide right was stretching the Glasgow defence but their goalkeeper made a series of impressive saves to keep the home side out.
However it was only a matter of time and finally Rachel was onto another through ball and this time she took it past the keeper and slotted the ball away, 2-0. Soon after the ball was switched from the left across the Glasgow box and Diane rifled the ball into the top corner. 3-0.
Glasgow were pushing forward every chance they could but the Falkirk defence stood firm and played the ball out from the back with confidence. Some neat passing in midfield released Rachel again and she once more ended against the keeper in a one on one and slottd away her 2nd of the game. Half-time 4-0.
As the game continued the Falkirk coaches were able to give all their players a great run-out and after some changes in personnel the game continued as it had finished with a perfectly weighted ball through from Kerry released Rachel who took her hat-trick confidently. 5-0.
Glasgow started to come back into the game as Falkirk sat back on their scoreline and they were punished when the visitors headed home from a corner. 5-1. This was the wake-up call the team needed and the girls picked up their workrate and Kerry grabbed her first of the game from a Shirley cross, nicking across the defender and sliding the ball under the goalie. 6-1.
Not done yet Falkirk kept up their passing game and switched the play around. Kerry went up front and this was the change that pushed the girls on again. A cross ball to the 18 yard box and Kerry blasted the ball in from an acute angle, 7-1. But not to be outdone by Rachel, Kerry finished off her hat-trick in style when she took on the goalie and finished with composure.
The final score was 8-1 and it was a great advert for the women's game. Lots of great play from both sides and excellent individual and team play. th eonly downside for the home side was hearing later that midfielder Kayleigh has a broken foot and is in a cast and on crutches!
The coaches Alison, Brian and Bobby are very pleased with the whole team's performance and are looking forward to their game next Sunday away to Hibs 1875.
Goals: Kerry Graham (3), Rachel Donladson (3), Diane Harkins & Susie Malloy
