U13s Lose First League Game 2010 (March 08, 2010)The U13s played Stenhousemuir for the first league game of the season and found the physical strength and size of their opponents too much. Falkirk started the game quite strong and had a few attacks but couldn't break down the Stennie defence. It was Stennie who opened the scoring after 15mins with their first attack and this seemed to fill them with confidence as they then went onto dominate the game.
However, we can see week by week the girls improving as they play together more often and they certainly weren't outclassed in the game. Natalie played in goals and did exceptionally well considering she was called in at the last moment and still has 3 years at this age group. Rebekah Shanks and Sarah were strong in defence with Rebekah's postioning and reading of the game superb. Rebecca Read, Hazel and Sophie were strong in midfield with Hazel making some excellent runs down the wing and then crossing the ball into dangerous areas. Hazel shows composure and intelligence when on the ball, lifting her head and picking out a pass to a team mate. Rebecca and Sophie are strong and skillful but need to work on passing the ball a little earlier rather than trying to hold onto it.
Leah started as striker and worked tirelessly but had a hard job up against the size and strength of the Stennie defence. Melissa replaced Leah and again worked hard but couldn't break down their defence. Caity played the last 15mins as striker and got herself into good positions. On one occassion found herself one on one with their keeper and although her shot was on target she but couldn't get enough power in it to trouble the keeper.
Morgan played a short time at right mid and then at right back where she did well with her positioning and showed determination.
Rebecca Read scored our only goal of the game with a strong run through midfield dribbling past 3 Stennie players before slotting the ball past their keeper.
Overall the girls all played well but we need to tighten up in defence especially at corners and free kicks.
