U13s Win Last League Game (September 05, 2009) The U13s played Falkirk Academy Blues at Sunnyside this morning and with Falkirk Academy Whites withdrawing from the league and some of their players going to the Blues we knew this would be harder game than the previous ones. However it was Rachel who opened the scoring after some great link up play with Colette1-0 and 2 mins later after Colette won a free kick just outside the box it was Sophie who made it 2-0 after Rachel took the free kick and carly touched it on where Sophie was quick to tap it in the net. On 25 mins Dandy flung the ball to Mel who took a touch and passed up the wing to Colette who drove forward and finished with her shot hitting the botom corner. 3-0. The girls lost a bit concentration at this point and allowed the Blues to get a goal back 3-1 but picked up again when Colette found herself one on one against their keeper and with composure slotted it past her. 4-1 In the second half it was the Blues who looked more eager and within 5 mins had pulled a goal back 4-2. The Blues had other chances to score but their final shots let them down with few on target. It was Shalana who increased our lead when Rachel swung in a corner and Shalana controlled it, took a touch then hit the back of the net.5-2 Overall this was a great display especially with so many new and younger players in the squad. Sarah and Rebekah played a half each and were both superb in defence. Trialist Leah came on in the second half at right back and did not look out of place for her first game at this level. Trialist Melissa played striker and she has great control of the ball as well as getting into good positions to receive the ball. It is hard to believe both Melissa and Sophie are still U11 as they are proving that they can hold their own with the older girls. Carly also deserves a mention as she has improved so much this season and deserved her start today. She also gives 100% and never gives up.
