Reds Battle Against Stenhousemuir (May 13, 2009)

Falkirk Reds v Stenhousemuir Girls

Wednesday 13th May 09

6.30pm kick-off

The Reds faced off against league newcomers Stenhousemuir tonight at Nailer Road in Camelon. With the weather finally dry but a strong one-sided win the home side went into the game determined to build on their good performance against Falkirk Academy.

Both sides started evenly, with the midfields sominating possession. Then 10 minutes in Stenhousemuir had a good attack and the Falkirk defenders stood off the striker allowing her to take a shot from outside the 18 yard box; 1-0! Again we had allowed a team to score from that position!

The Reds battled on and were making progress and get more involved in the game when Stenhousemuir again tried a shot from the edge of the box, this time it took a wicked deflection off a Falkirk defender and ended up looping over the head of goalkeeper Lorraine. 2-0!

Stenhousemuir then utilised the wind and put alot of pressure on the Falkirk team but they kept their heads up and it remained 2-0 at half-time.

The second half was a different story as Falkirk had the wind at their backs and played some fantastic football. The girls dominated the play and most of the game was spent in the Stenhousemuir half - but in front on goal the Reds never got a break! Corners flew across the goal, scrambled clearances, just kept the Falkirk team out. The second half only really saw Falkirk have two clear chance. Team top goalscorer Louise had a great effort saved at the bottom left hand post (a great save from the Stenny keeper) and late on Lisa had a snap shot that went past the left post!

So Falkirk again had a great second half but could not convert possession into goals and the game ended 2-0 to Stenhousemuir.
