Blues Bounce Back in Style After Shock Scottish Cup Exit
Stenhousemuir v Falkirk LFC Blues
Saturday 9th May
11:30 kick off, Cowie Park
Grandad Roy Reports
Weather Conditions: Heavy Rain, Very Windy
From kick off Blues were straight into attack mode with great determination and good passing from Susie, Shelby and Linzi Hunter. Nicole and Susie coming close on a couple of occasions, some very good saves from stenhousemuir’s goalkeeper her handling of the ball in these conditions was very good. Stenhousemuir's defence was having to work nery hardas they were under constant attacks from Blues. Eventually they were cracked in the 26th min when the ball broke to Amanda who showed clever footwork and produced a lovely strike, great goal into corner of net 0-1. Very few attacks from Stenhousemuir and any threats were easily mopped up by blues defence- once again Corri, Sian Aimee and Robyn Knox were on top of their game, so composed and solid. Rebecca had very little to do and was very confident in dealing with what came her way.
Half Time: Stenhousemuir 0 v 1 Falkirk LFC Blue
Second Half kicked off but the rain never eased up. Both teams really did give the spectators a good football match Blue team were the stronger of the two Amanda, +Kirsten ,Nicole and Linzi Hunter who's runs down the right and her deliveries into goal area were superb 43rd min great cross from Linzi to Amanda who laid the ball of to Susie who placed the ball under the goalkeeper, a well taken goal 0-2. Stenhousemuir tried to attack but Blues were well on top with defence and midfield winning and really controlling the game. Blues mounted another attack into Stenhousemuir's defence in the 67th min and tricky winger Nicole won the ball weaved and cut past defenders with ease she was brought down in the box - definite penalty! Sian (Capt) elected to take the kick which was perfectly struck and gave the keeper no chance 0-3.
Full Time: Stenhousemuir 0 v 3 Falkirk LFC Blue
Stenhousemuir are a very young and capable team and should do well in their first year lots of good players and excellent sportsmanship.
Great team display from the Blues they worked hard and played well for each other. Special mention must go to Corri and Linzi they covered a lot of ground and their delivery of passes was excellent. Susie, Shelby and Nicole’s work rate up front was outstanding and gave the Stenhousemuir defence a torrid time. Amanda , Lyndsay and Kirsten all distributed the ball well and in defence Rebecca, Corri, Sian ,Aimee, and Robyn were all solid.
Congratulations to Shirley, Ashley and the girls you have picked yourselves up in the best way possible after your bitter disappointment in the Scottish cup.
