Academy Come Out on Top (May 02, 2009) Falkirk Reds made the short journey to Little Kerse today to face local team Falkirk Academy. With a full squad available to coaches Alison and Annmarie, the starting line-up was made based on the teams previous performance against the Blues.
As with all our previous matches against the Academy the game was a very close affair with the Reds dominating possession but failing to convert their chances. In what proved to be a very frustrating first half the Reds had wave after wave of attack but failed to put the ball away. The Academy had two chances and scored them both! So at the half-time whistle the home side led 2-0.
The second half was alot tighter as both teams worked hard for their chances. But again it was the Acacdemy that had the clinical finishing and they did so after 10 minutes with a lovely lob over the Reds goalkeeper from outside the box. 3-0 down and the Reds starting playing good moves agin and with 10 minutes to go finally made the breakthrough after a cross ball from Sophie and Lisa smashing home a left foot shot at the back post.
The scoreline made for a fast and furious last 10 minutes as both sides were desperate to get another goal. But the time ran out and the match ended 3-1.
Falkirk Reds played a great game but once again it was their ability to put the ball away that cost them the 3 points. But well done to Falkirk Academy on their clinical finishing and determination throughout the match.
