What A Game (March 14, 2009)
17's Scottish Cup - 1st Round
Motherwell GFC v Falkirk LFC
Coach Doc Reporting

An early kick off at Auchenheath for the girls as they played this first round cup tie.  The team knew that it was going to be a tough tie but the girls were well up for it. In the 1st minute Motherwell forced a corner.  From the resulting ball in goalkeeper Kim was forced into the post, and banged her head, whilst Motherwell put the ball away. 1-0.  Luckily after a couple of minutes Kim got up and played on - doing well.

Falkirk rallied round and went straight up the pitch and Laura crossed the ball in and Eva shot well but it was saved.  Motherwell then had a couple of chances but the Falkirk defence stayed strong and played well.  Both teams had chances as the pace of the game went up.

Falkirk started to take control of the game as Amy McNab passed the ball through to Eva who turned and played it wide to Laura.  She then went by the defender and on the 18 yard line shot the ball across the goalie and into the bottom corner. 1-1

In the second half Motherwell came out strong and forced Kim into an early save.  Then disaster as a tackle in midfield saw Lauren Fraser fall on her elbow and then have to come off in alot of pain (she will be okay). Soon after that Motherwell drove forward with too much room and the player hit a fierce shot that goalie Kim had no chance with. 2-1.

But Falkirk did not give up - for the last 10 minutes it was all Falkirk, shots saved, shots over the bar, shots just by the post, free kicks into the wall!  But it was not to be and Motherwell go through into the 2nd round draw 2-1.

Coach Doc says "where can I start? At times we dominated and played some really good football - it was a great cup tie.  I think we did really well and if we can keep playing like this we will have a good season. Well done to all the players as they were brilliant!"
