Change of Season

(March 05, 2009)
Letter from the SFA in clarification of the Senior Women's Game following the lead of the Youths ...

Dear Colleague

Change of Season for all Senior Women’s Teams – Season 2010

Further to your recent discussion and meeting with my colleagues regarding the Change of Season for all senior women’s clubs, we are writing to inform you of the timescales involved in the process. The Change of Season has been ratified and endorsed by the Board of Scottish Women’s Football, with whom we are working very closely.

There will be a transitional league between August to November 2009, the format and details to be agreed as yet.

The new season for all clubs will commence in March 2010 and run until November 2010.  The timing of Cup competitions will be agreed with the SWF Board following discussion with all interested parties.

Clubs will require to re-affiliate to SWF and to register their players again for the commencement of the new season in March 2010. With the registration of players and affiliation of clubs being undertaken in the winter months this will mean there is less pressure at that time of year, as opposed to the summer months when players and club personnel are on holiday.

The affiliation and registration fees for the transition period between August-November 2009 will be taken into account when the affiliation fees are set, as they will be for a season and a half, to the end of 2010.

As you are aware the Scottish FA has already intimated to many of the Local Authorities about the change of season for the Women’s Leagues. Should you encounter any problems with regard to accessing facilities, please contact my colleague ....

We would also like to inform you at this point that the provision of match officials to cover the change of season has been addressed with our colleagues in the Referee Administration Department, and they envisage no problems with regard to the provision of match officials to cover the new season.

This is a really forward thinking and momentous move for the Girls’/Women’s game in Scotland.

We would commend you for your progressive approach to developing the game here in Scotland, and would hope that you will lead the way for other areas of the game to follow in future.

Good luck and we wish you every success in this venture.

Kind Regards

Gordon Smith
