Blues Fight Hard in Final Game

(December 30, 2008)

Tuesday 16th December

Drumchapell v Falkirk Blues

Glasgow Green, Kick Off 6:30pm

The last game of the season saw an unique Falkirk line up with goalkeeper Rebecca Cheape starting at left back! Falkirk put the weekends disappointments behind them and played some really good football.  With around 15mins gone Amanda Tweedie found herself some space on the edge of the box and fired and inch perfect shot into the top corner 0 -1.  The girls were like a different team from the one from the last two games and after another excellent passing move it was the turn of top goal scorer Nicole McPhee to find the back of the net from outside the box 0 2.  It was turing out to be an excellent game of football from both teams who played in a sporting and friendly manner credit must also go to the referee who allowed the game to flow.

Half Time: Drumchapel 0 v 2 Falkirk Blue

Second half was much the same as the first with some excellent football being played by the blues but the massive pitch coupled with the fact that this was the girls 3rd game in 5 days and the fact that we only had 11 players took its toll and Drumchapel managed to get the game back to 2 – 2.  Falkirk did have a couple of late chances to snatch the victory but alas it was not to be.

Final Score: Drumchapel 2 v 2 Falkirk Blue

Credit must go to the girls for bouncing back from the disappointing weekend and really playing some excellent football.

Now that the season is finished, short as it was, Shirley and Ashley have built a really good team with the girls despite their  frustrations and disappointments.  Any one who has been to watch and support the girls will have seen they can work together as a team  and play some really good football also taking into consideration that four of the girls have just come into the team from under 13 level it is a big step from playing 7 aside with no offside rule to 11 a side and another 3 who have fitted into the team so well. Also 5 of the girls making it to the regional squad with 6 in the regional schools squad and one international cap I think that will tell people how good the team really is.

They have experienced the highs and the lows this game throws at you and they will be the better team next season because of this.

Congratulations to Nicole McPhee who secured top goalscorer for this season.

Well done Shirley and Ashley and of course to all the girls

Thank you and well done to everyone involved with Falkirk Ladies F.C.
