“Heartless Performance Rewards Nothing”

Falkirk Ladies Football Club looked to bounce back from the disappointing of their semi-final penalty shoot-out heartbreak in midweek with a fighting display against the current league leaders, Rangers Ladies, at Petershill Juniors Ground.

With a full fit squad to choose from Coaches Wilson and Thomson went with a solid looking 4-1-4-1 formation as they tried to combat the strength in the Rangers side.

Minute by Minute (Falkirk in Blue)

  • 5min – Settling period in the game with no clear chances to either side.
  • 6min – Rangers midfield player, Steph Handley fires a shot towards Keeper Machola who deals with it easily.
  • 9min – GOAL – A hopeful ball across the Falkirk penalty area was not dealt with by the defence and a quick turn and shot saw the ball fly past keeper Machola and into the back of the net (1-0).
  • 12min – GOAL – Poor defending again allowed the Rangers striker to fire home and increase the advantage (2-0).
  • 22min – GOAL – A fast flowing move down the Falkirk right saw the Rangers front line create yet another scoring opportunity which they dually obliged (3-0).
  • 25min – A well struck shot from the edge of the penalty area cannoned off the cross bar and away to safety with Keeper Machola well beaten.
  • 30min – GOAL – A long ball through the heart of Falkirk defence and a neat lob finish saw Rangers grab their 4th goal of the game – worse to come !!!!! (4-0).
  • 32min – On a rare attack for the Bairns, Kerry Graham found herself on the edge of the Rangers penalty area but her snap shot drifted wide of the target.
  • 38min – Jennifer Godfrey powered forward but her powerful shot went high over the bar.
  • 43min – Goal – Another pacey attack from Rangers saw them carve open the Falkirk defence with ease and the resulting shot gave keeper Machola no chance (5-0).
  • 44mn – Goal – As above, the Rangers attack was allowed to move the ball around with ease and it was no surprise to see the net bulge again with goal no6 (6-0)

Coach Wilson’s Synopsis:-

The contrast in the performance from the side after Wednesday’s Cup-Tie heroics was a hard one to swallow as the players looked jaded and disinterested.  An away game to Rangers, who are currently the league leaders, on their artificial surface was not exactly the best game to go into on the back of the heartbreak from mid-week however a spirited performance was the players was expected.

The players will bounce back from the result.
