Blues win 'Local Derby'
(November 17, 2008)
Falkirk Blue V Falkirk Academy
15th November, 10:30 kick off.
Naylor Road, Camelon
Grandad Roy Reports:
Game kicked off at 10.30am and great expectations were hoped for by spectators and coaches but unfortunately due to lack of matches and the very strong wind the Blues were finding it difficult to produce their usual quality football against an Academy team which has improved since their first game with the Blues.
Blues attacked with the wind at their backs and won their first corner in the 3rd min, Amanda's cross was well hit but the wind carried it past everyone. Corners in the 5th ,8th and15th minute were the nearest the Blues came to scoring as they tried to turn there dominance into goals. Then in the 25th Min Amanda sent a lovely cross from yet another corner and Aimee Thomson rose above everyone else and perfectly met the ball to send a well placed header into the net 1-0. Good football was difficult to play in these conditions but the Blues kept trying and were definitely the more attack minded team winning numerous corners and again in the 25th Min Amanda sent another good cross from another corner straight into net 2-0!! The blues were growing in confidence with a couple of goals behind them and in the 31st min a good long throw from Lyndsay Hopper was picked up by Nicole McPhee who produced a super shot 3-0.
Half Time: Falkirk Blue 3 v 0 Falkirk Academy
Second half again started with the Blues attacking and in the 42 min the first piece of really good football resulted in the first goal of the second half. Amanda (capt) won the ball and burst through the defence her great strike was parried by the keeper and Nicole was first to the loose ball and tapped the ball in 4-0. Blues well on top of game now. Must have been another good talking to the team from Shirley and Ashley! Blues win another corner in the 48th min another super cross from Amanda was well met by Robyn Graham who’s volley found the corner of the net 5-0. Some nice football now from the Blues from defence to midfield to forwards playing some really good possession football. Once again in the 55th min good pass from Linzi to Susie who out-paced the Academy defence and squared a great pass to Shelby who fooled everyone with her neat Cruyff turn in the box and sent an unstoppable shot high into the net 6-0. The Blues were in complete control now as their superior fitness levels allowed them to keep the pace high right to the final whistle. Captain Amanda saved the best for last when she won the ball in a midfield area and dribbled past 5 or 6 players before unleashing an unstoppable shot high into the top corner - great finishing 7-0.
Full Time: Falkirk Blue 7 v 0 Falkirk Academy
Blues deserved their victory today on their second half performance. They started the second half with determination and pretty good football the passing of the ball between them in the last quarter of game was a delight. Once again the goalkeepers and defence were on top for the majority of the game but concentration must be maintained for the full 70 minutes. Hopefully that's them back on track now and if they continue the high standards until the end of season they will be unstoppable.
Very good Team Effort in second half - keep up the good work!
