Seniors In New Home Ground v Civil Service
(August 29, 2004)
Falkirk Ladies triumphed at their new
home ground, Beechwood Park. The home of Sauchie Juniors is now to be the new
home of Falkirk Ladies FC.
The ladies did themselves proud for yet another week when
they scored two fantastic goals against old rivals Civil Service
Strollers.
The game was not as goaltastic as the previous week, however
the girls did do well to hold Strollers off from scoring after going two nil up
right before half time.
The game start better than last weeks, with Falkirk trying
to push forward straight from the off and trying to breakdown Strollers 8 girl
defence. It wasn't until the 19th minute that Falkirk broke the deadlock with
Audrey McGrory picking the ball up outside the 18 yard box, turning a player and
chipping the ball over the keeper at a tight angle on the 18 yard line. A
fantastic goal from a fantastic player who is just beginning to get her
confidence back, and is showing this with the magnificant goals she is
producing so far this season.
The game was pretty much end-to-end stuff, with mostly
Falkirk pressing forward, losing it and chasing back only to press forward
immediately after.
The second goal came right on half-time with a short corner
on the left worked by Ashley McDonald who played the short pass to Paula Smith.
Paula took on two players and sailed it into the back of the net from the corner
of the 18 yard box to make it two - nil.
Half time was immediately after the second goal, and Alana
Marshall was struggling to re-appear in the second half, so trialist Fiona
Cardwell came on for her.
The second half didnt bring much excitement in the way of
goals, however there were many chances at either end. Audrey McGrory, in 55th
minute missed the chance of her second and Falkirk's third when she pulled
the ball wide when there was an open goal. Ashley McDonald also had an
opportunity in the 6 yard box when she fell at the ball and was foiled by her
soft shot.
Strollers had a few more chances in the second 45, however
weren't able to cash in on them when Falkirk's goalkeeper, Fiona Melville,
made at least two very good saves to keep Falkirk in the game. Having cleared
the ball off the line twice and taking the ball from Strollers' strikers feet,
Fiona Melville definately earns merit from Sundays performance.
Team: Melville, Kirkwood, Yuill, McRoberts, Bryce, Harris,
Smith, Kane, McDonald, McGrory and Marshall
Subs: Todd, Martin, Forsyth
