Heartbrake For U17s
(October 13, 2008)
The Falkirk U17 team were away to Edinburgh on Sunday 5th October to face Hibs Girls in what would prove to be a deciding game for league positions. Both sides needed maximum points to finish in the top four and force another chance at the league title.
The game started well for Falkirk as both Jade Empson and Emma White had early chances saved by the Hibs keeper. They then kept the pressure on and in the 14th minutes Lisa Sutherland did a great turn in the box and scored 1-0!
The rest of the first half saw both sides have many chances that were just over or wide or saved by the keeper but it was the home side that made the breakthrough right on half-time when they scored from a breakaway.
Half-time 1-1.
The second half went the way of the first with both sides realising the importance of a win but neither could finish of the many chances both sides had. The game finished a frustrating 1-1.
Unfortunately due to other results that day Hibs Girls have now finished 4th in the league and Falkirk 5th. This means that the Falkirk girls will now play off against the bottom 4 teams in their league for final placings.
Coach Doc said that he couldn't fault his team for their performance and commitment. They played really well for the full 80 minutes. He was just a little disappointed that they had not managed this kind of performance earlier in the season.
