Falkirk Blue v Motherwell
Saturday 4th October, K.O. 10:30am
Granddad Roy Reports:
Top of the Table clash lives up to expectations.
The weather conditions at Nailor Road were absolutely atrocious with a swirling wind and continuous rain for this top of the table clash. The game kicked off at 10.30am and both teams as expected took a while to settle into any kind of rhythm. The Blues were the first to attack when Shelby was sent racing clear but Motherwell goal keeper (Rachel) was in top form pulling of a really good save. Falkirk had a few half chances after that but the Motherwell goalkeeper was rarely tested. Playing good football in these conditions was nye impossible but the blues adapted better in the first half and had the better chances. Any Motherwell attacks were well broken up by blues defence, long before they reached Rebecca in goal. Once again the defence were very solid in clearing their goal area and had no trouble in dealing with the lone Motherwell striker. Rebecca was very confident once again in goal and had two or three good saves, she cleared her lines well. Both goalkeepers were playing well under the conditions as were both teams. The midfield were battling hard but with Motherwell playing a very defensive formation with five in the middle the blues found it hard to dominate as much as they usually do. Once again Susie and Shelby ran their hearts out creating chances but were just unable to convert them.
Half Time: Falkirk Blue 0 v 0 Motherwell
The second half was much the same as first half, the weather conditions were playing a huge part in the game, the ball was bogged down in midfield and with both teams working hard and scrapping away in there, it meant there was not many goal scoring chances for either team. Motherwell hit bar late in second half with a free kick and then in the last minute Shelby had a good shot saved by the goalkeeper.
Both teams today showed they are worthy of their league placing’s with some really good football on show despite the terrible conditions. Overall the Blues were just the better team.
Full Time: Falkirk Blue 0 v 0 Motherwell
A big thank-you to all the spectators from both teams who endured a miserable time due to weather conditions but who managed to encourage and support their teams with great enthusiasm .
Team: Rebecca Cheape, Sian Meaney, Aimee Thomson, Robyn Knox, Lyndsay Hopper, Linzi Hunter, (Robyn Graham), Kayleigh McCann, Amanda Tweedie (Capt), Nicole McPhee, Susie Malloy, Shelby Carney, Sub not used: Angela McCluckie.
The blues should be confident going into the return match. Motherwell’s decision to play with one upfront is a credit to how good they view this Blue team to be. If the conditions were not so extreme today then I fully expect the Blues would have dominated the game as they have done every other week.
If the girls keep working hard, keep up the determination level and believe in themselves a bit more then who knows what can happen. Big players need to step up for big games and hopefully we will see that the next time.
All in all when considering the conditions we are happy with a draw.
