17's v Pennsylvanian Side
(July 25, 2004)
The Under 17 team played a
friendly against visiting USA team Gardenspot High School from Pennsylvania on
Sunday 25th July. The match took place at Inchyra Parks, Grangemouth on a lovely
summer's night and proved to be a testing game for both
sides.
The Americans were very athletic and had very fast
forwards and defenders however the Falkirk team had experience and dtermination
on their side. Early in the first half saw all the pressure come from the
Falkirk girls as the ball was played to feet from Kelly Fullerton, wide to
talyor Johnston and forwrd to Danielle Weir & Kerry Graham. But no
goals came from the pressure or nice play. It was the Americans that broke
the deadlock scoring twice before half time.
Falkirk came out fighting in the second half and began
to play the ball around with some style, looking to get a goal back. They
did so after 10 minutes when Kelly played a ball into the feet of Kerry at the
egde of the 18 yard box. Kerry spun & struck the ball left footed into
the top right-hand corner. Now Falkirk pushed forward but Gardenspot kept
pushing for another goal sothe game went from end to end. But it was Falkirk who
finally equalised. Taylor made a great run down the right wing, beating the
American left back for pace and crossed the ball into the head of
Kerry. Kerry managed to knock it on across the 6 yard box for Danielle Weir
to head in at the back post. 2-2.
The game was played in a very friendly manner and proved
to be a great training session for the Falkirk Girls.
Next Friendly - Falkirk Under 17
girls now face another USA team from Pennsylvania on Sunday 8th August. They
play Blue Mountain High School U17 team at Inchyra Parks again with a 7pm kick
off.
