(September 10, 2008)

Falkirk Blue v Clyde Cosmos

Nailor Road, Camelon

1830 Kick Off

Granddad Roy Reports:

The game started at an extremely high pace with the Blues attacking Cosmos goal trying to get that early goal which has become a regular occurrence in their opening games so far.  Low and behold in the 7th minute Lindsay collected the ball and spotted Linzi free who sent Amanda racing up the line, her cross was inch perfect for Nicole at the back post - GOAL 1-0.  Blues were playing good football once again from the defence, Susie and Shelby once again this week chased every ball.  In the 10th min after some excellent possession football Linzi played a defense splitting ball through for Shelby who’s strike rocketed past the goalkeeper into the top corner of the net, super strike 2-0. 13th min Rebecca made a very good save and with good awareness spotted Lindsay free who then sent a super pass to Shelby who’s speed and strength saw off the defender before she slipped the ball past oncoming keeper 3-0 Shelby took a nasty knock from the goalkeeper and was injured in the process.  She recovered after treatment and continued playing. The 18th min saw another good piece of running from Shelby and her cross was handled by the defender and left the  referee with no option but to point to the spot. Joint captain Sian elected to take it and calmly sent the keeper wrong way 4-0. The remainder of the half was end to end football with good attacking and defending from both sides. However the blues always had the upper hand and seemed to step up their play whenever required.  Every player contributed a lot in this half Rebecca was solid in goal as were her defense.  The midfield battled hard and kept the ball well with the forward running tirelessly constantly making themselves available and always ready to pounce on any goalkeeping errors.   Just before the end of the half Robyn Graham came on for Robyn Knox who had taken a hard knock to ankle.  Robyn G slotted into the game no problem, nice to see her back and match fit.

Half Time: Falkirk Blue 4 v 0 Clyde Cosmos

Second half began with Cosmos attacking but Blues defense was solid.  However Cosmos kept up the attack and after a period of pressure in the 59th min Cosmos broke through.  A powerful shot from outside the box crept into the bottom corner giving Angela no chance 4-1. The goal seemed to wake the Blues up and once again they started to control game.  Amanda(Capt) lead by example fighting hard in the midfield winning tackles, which I must say were pretty hefty at times from both teams! 63rd min ball came to Amiee who threaded it to Robyn G, she passed it to Kayleigh who played an excellent through ball for Nicole, her cross deflected off a defender and out for a corner.  Amanda swung in a perfect near post corner which was volleyed first time high into the net by Susie – Great corner, great goal! 5 -1.   The Blues were well in control of the game now and only some frantic defending and good goalkeeping kept the score down. Falkirk were passing the ball around nicely and came close a couple of times  but in the 71st min a poor clearance by Cosmos goalkeeper was pounced on by Amanda who raced into the box, she beat a challenge from the goalkeeper before slotting the ball into the goal 6-1.
