CSEW Shield U15 Red Report
(June 15, 2008)
On Saturday 14th June the Falkirk U15 Red team took part in the Shield competition at Bankton Mains Sports Centre in Livingstone. This was the final competition run by the CSEW league which disbands next week.
The shield competition consists of the teams that finished in the lower half of their leagues allowing the games to be competitive for the players.
Falkirk were drawn in a group of 4 with Dunfermline, Broxburn & Clyde Cosmos. The top two would progress to the semi-finals.
The first game was a close affair but after 10 minutes Captain Natalie Buckle ran onto a ball just outside the box and hit an amazing drive that flew past the goalkeeper into the top of the net! 1-0! From then on the game was very even with both sides coming close on occasions. But Falkirk held out to win 1-0.
The second game was against Broxburn Girls who had just come off two back-to-back defeats. They looked tired and the Falkirk team took advantage of this. Within 5 minutes defender Amy Duncan cleared the ball from half-way which took a high bounce over the keeper to make it 1-0! The Broxburn's girls heads went down and Falkirk piled on the pressure. Natalie quickle added a 2nd goal and Dion McCusker a third within 5 minutes. By this time the whole team were pushing fowrards and Amy scored again. At 4-0 the game was well over but Falkirk kept the pressure on and Dion added a 2nd to her tally and Amy went on to score 4 goals in total! The game ended 7-0.
With two wins Falkirk were through to the semi-finals and it just came down to the match with Clyde Cosmos as to who would go through group winners. It was a different game as Cosmos are avery good side and they immeditely saw that the Falkirk side were tiring. But it took them 15 minutes before they broke throught the amazing saves that Ellise Mitchell was pulling off in goals. Cosmos played excellent football and finished 3-0 winners.
With Falkirk finishing 2nd in their group they faced the winners of the other group, Drumchapel. It was always going to be a tough match as the girls were very tired with the number of games they had played and in the heat. But they put up a good fight and created a few chances but Drumchapel were clinical in their finishing and won the match 3-0.
Alison, Annmarie & Kerry were delighted at the performance of the players throughout the competition and were very happy to see their last games in charge go so well.
Well done girls!!!!
