15's Scottish Cup Quarter Final
(March 27, 2004)
Falkirk Under 15's travelled to Glasgow
Green to take on Baillieston in the Scottish Cup quarter final.
The game was mostly one way in the first half with
Baillieston taking the game to Falkirk. Scoring half way through the first half
it took Baillieston 3 minutes to score three goals. All three goals came
from crosses that were not cleared properly by the Falkirk defence and that cost
them dearly.
Falkirk tried to come back into the game but were unable to
get the breaks they needed. A change was made in defence not long before half
time to allow Mandie Stevenson to come on and strengthen Falkirks defence.
However, Baillieston were still able to score a fourth before half
time.
The second half started and Falkirk went out believing that
they were perhaps not going to win, however they needed to restore their own
pride. With a new formation of 3-5-2, Falkirk were stronger and were
man-marking Bailliestons forwards. This allowed the midfield to come into
the game more and push forward for the goal that they needed to lift
themselves.
It wasn't long before Falkirk were pushing forward to
get that goal and a free kick was awarded for a push on Jennifer
Buchanan right outside the 18 yard box. Arlene Livingston stepped up to
take the free kick and floated the ball over the keeper the into the top
right hand corner. Baillieston 4 - Falkirk 1.
Bailliestons number 16 was booked for the challenge on Wee
Jenny B and Falkirk were now feeling better about
themselves and were playing a better game. However, a slight relapse in the
Falkirk defence allowed Baillieston to break free and score
a fifth goal.
Baillieston found another of their players booked for
persistant fowling, however the referee was not very forthcoming with fair play
and only blew the whistle when there was no way he could turn a blind
eye!
The game brought about many talking points, both positive
and negative for Falkirk to work on in future and they even found one of
the parents having a talking to from the referee, he shall remain
nameless.
From the performance Falkirk displayed in the second half
they should be very proud of themselves, and take that into future
games.
