U-17s Go Third in League (April 30, 2008)
Falkirk U-17s played Cosmos at Sunnyside last night 29th April and after a convincing 4-1 win go joint third in the league.
From the kick off Falkirk looked threatening and within minutes Jenny had made a run to the bye line, passed the ball back to Lisa whose shot was tipped over the bar for a corner. The corner from Nicky was headed towards goal by Maxine but rebounded off the bar and eventually Cosmos put it out for another corner which caused the keeper problems again and she dropped the ball but there was no Falkirk player quick enough to take advantage.
Natalie's first touch came after 10 mins when Cosmos won a corner and their striker was given a free shot on goal but Natalie was well positioned and saved comfortably.
Falkirk kept the pressure on and Lauren played a lovely ball through for Nicky whose shot hit the defender and fell to Sheryl but her first time shot went wide. Falkirk then won another corner and Jenny crossed in a great ball which Nicky headed first and it came back off the bar to Lauren whose header again hit the bar!
It was looking like it wasn't to be for Falkirk but minutes before half time Sheryl made a great run down towards the bye line and crosed the ball over to Nicky who didn't have a great angle to shoot from but looked up and cut the ball back to Lauren who was unmarked and she shot for goal.
1-0
From Cosmos' kick off Falkirk won the ball back and Lisa worked her way into space and unleashed a 25yd strike which beat the keeper.
2-0 - Half time
Falkirk started the second half as the first had finished and won a corner. Jenny swung the ball in and Nicky headed it towards goal but a defender tried to head clear and only resulted in helping it into the goal. 3-0
Throughout the game Laura was holding the ball up superbly and her ball control was causing continuous problems for the defence so it was no surprise when she dribbled past 3 opponents and shot for goal. Unfortunately she couldn't get enough power behind the shot and it was saved. Then Sarah lined up a free kick from outside the box which she struck well but went over the bar. Jenny won another corner after making a surging run down the right and Sarah managed to get in front of her defender at the near post to head the ball inches wide.
Falkirk seemed to lose concentration and let Cosmos back into the game as a mix-up in the defence led to the ball rebounding to the Cosmos player whose strike left Natalie no chance. 3-1
This lifted Cosmos and they continued to pressure for 15 mins but a long range shot was well held by Natalie and Falkirk soaked up the pressure. After some good play from Lisa again she won a corner. Nicky spotted Kerry, unmarked, running in towards the box and pulled the ball back for her to place a great ball in the top left corner. 4-1
Sheryl was unlucky not to make it 5 when the keeper failed to hold onto a shot and she touched it into the net but it was disallowed.
Final Score: Falkirk 4 - 1 Cosmos
