U-17s Turn The Tables on Whitburn (April 27, 2008)
The U-17s were out to reverse the previous result against Whitburn 2 weeks ago when they were defeated 2-1 and with a few players unavailable Kim put on the keeper's jersey, Jade filled in at left back and young Amanda Tweedie was drafted in from the U-15s to boost the squad.
The first chances fell to Falkirk who won 3 free kicks in the first 10 mins due to some unfair tackling and good balls were lofted into the danger area but there were no takers. The first shot to test their keeper came from Lisa after a great touch on from Laura but was saved comfortably. Moments later Nicky kept battling away to win the ball on the left side and managed to get some space to shoot which went over the bar.
Whitburn then had a good spell of possession and attacked the Falkirk goal winning a couple of corners which came to nothing. On 20 mins Maxine hit a hopeful ball into the box which went right through to their keeper who somehow managed to drop it and Nicky was unlucky not to open the scoring.
Whitburn won a free kick just outside our box and took it quickly, passing out to our left and the striker's shot forced Kim into a good save.
Kerry then won the ball in her own half and dribbled her way through into the box but her shot hit the defender in the arm - no penalty given. Nicky swung in the resulting corner but no-one managed to get on the end of it.
When Falkirk won another free kick in the opposing half Sarah put a great ball in which Maxine managed to get her head to but watched it going wide. After some good link up play with Kerry andLaura, Kerry got her shot away but was not powerful enough to trouble the keeper. On 35 mins Falkirk won another corner which was swung in by Jenny and again Maxine troubled the defence and this time her header was on target and beat the keeper. 1-0
Moments later a great opportunity to double the lead fell to Sheryl but the ball somehow bounced over her foot.
Just before half time Whitburn equalised after their striker made a powerful run down the Falkirk left and our defence was left helpless.
Half-Time 1-1
The second half started with Falkirk having more chances but unable to score. Nicky crossed a great ball in which Jenny just failed to connect with. Kerry had a long range effort when the ball landed nicely for her but went over the bar. After some superb play from Nicky on the left, teasing 3 defenders to create space in the middle, she chipped the ball in towards the penalty spot where Sheryl just missed it but Jenny was on hand to shoot. 2-1
Half way through the second half Maxine won the ball in her own half and drove on as no opposing player closed her down and her shot forced the keeper to tip the ball over the bar. Lisa had a left footed shot after Nicky passed the ball back to her but the keeper saved.
Amanda came on for Sheryl who had worked tirelessly throughout the game and Lyndsay came on for Jade who is so versatile and can play any position asked of her.
