Reds Out of League Cup (April 05, 2008)
The Falkirk Red team travelled to Kirkintilloch to face Clyde Cumbernauld in the quarter-final of the League Cup on Saturday.  Having been on the end of a heavy defeat earlier in the season the coaches were keen to see how the girls matched up now.

The game proved to be an excellent match with the Falkirk team attacking the ball well and takng the game to the home side.  Clyde have a very attacking long-ball game but this was dealt with by the Falkirk defenders for the first 20 minutes.  But after a period of prolonged pressure Clyde finally managed to nick a goal from a corner after a poor clearance.  This spurred on the home side and they hit two more goals on the break before half-time.

But Falkirk stuck in well and the coaches were happy with the 3-0 score-line at half time.  The second half saw Falkirk pile on the pressure and a goal came within 10 minutes after a long ball forward from keeper Ellise saw the Clyde defender miss-time her tackle and Dion McCusker nipped in behind and drove a left-foot shot home.  3-1.

Falkirk's heads were up and had alot of the ball in midfield and a through ball to Natasha Nicol saw her with only the goalie to beat ... but a stunning last ditch tackle from the centre-half cleared the ball.

From there Clyde settled a little and scored soon after making it 4-1.  Falkirk still battled hard but Clyde rounded off the game with another late goal and it ended 5-1 to the home side.

Although beaten this game really showed the Falkirk team how much they have improved throughout the season and they gave Clyde a great match.  The two teams still have to meet in the league at the end of April and it should be another tough, close game.
