The U-17s Draw with Motherwell (April 07, 2008)
The U-17s played Motherwell in the league yesterday at a cold, windy Sunnyside and after narrowly beating them recently in the league cup knew they would have a tough game ahead of them. With Megan, Lindsay and Sarah unavailable leaving only 10 outfield players young Hannah Ritchie from the U-15 blues was brought in.
Falkirk played with the wind in the first half and in the first minutes won a corner which was taken by Jenny who was unlucky not to score directly from it. The keeper just managed to get her fingertips to push it over. A few minutes later Kerry won the ball in her own half and put in a great ball for Laura who tested their keeper once again. From their goal kick Kim beat the Motherwell player to the ball and she passed it onto Nicky who got it onto her favoured left foot and scored with a spectacular long range shot.

Falkirk kept up the pressure for the rest of the first half but Motherwell always looked dangerous on the break and came close a couple of times to scoring when their striker was through on goal but Natasha made two brave saves at the striker's feet to smother the ball.

As the second half started with Falkirk against the wind Motherwell pushed for the equaliser and again Natasha kept the ball out with a great reflex save pushing the ball wide for Kim to clear. Moments later another strike from Motherwell brought out another good save from Natasha.
Motherwell should have equalised when their player on the edge of the box had a free shot but hit it over the bar . After some hard work in the middle of the park Lisa managed to find herself some space for a shot but forced onto her weaker left foot her shot was easily saved by the keeper. Jenny won the ball on the right, looked up and hit a high ball over for Nicky. The keeper came out and misjudged the bounce giving Nicky a chance to control the ball but the keeper managed to get a hand to tip the ball away from her. Another chance fell to Nicky when Kerry played the ball onto her but the keeper saved. Motherwell were still creating chances and their pace was causing problems for our defence. Natasha was called into action again when their player was allowed space to shoot and she dived to her left and managed to get a strong hand to push the ball out for a corner. However from the corner the ball hit off a Falkirk player and landed at the feet of an opposing player who toe poked it in. 1-1
This lifted Motherwell and for the last 10 minutes they continued to push for the winner but Falkirk worked hard and Hannah who had come in for Kim at left back made a couple of excellent tackles to stop the attack.
