Falkirk had a home tie on Sunday
against Aberdeen. It was doubtful whether the game would go ahead however, due
to good weather in Dunfermline melting an icy park it meant the game could be
played.
Falkirk playing their home tie in Dunfermline was
unusual, however nothing could be done as the Under 17's were playing at their
usual spot in Sunnyside, Camelon.
This weekend Falkirk again started the game off
positively with Audrey McGrory making her mark up front and with the help of
Vicky Yuill the two make a very good run to put pressure on Aberdeens defence.
With nothing coming from the first run, the second was sure to bring something.
Five minutes into the game and Audrey McGrory again causing turmoil, was
one-on-one with Aberdeen's keeper who produced a great save from Audrey's
equally great shot. The keeper was unable to keep hold of the ball and Angie
Hunter was able to pick up the loose ball and cross it back into danger for
Audrey to volley the ball home. Falkirk 1, Aberdeen 0.
Wasn't long before Aberdeen realised they were a goal down
to a team third from bottom of the league and tried to put pressure on the
Falkirk defence. Eventually Aberdeen got the equaliser, theAberdeen forward
handling the ball to control it and slotted it under the keeper, bad decision by
way of Falkirk. And not long after Aberdeen were two up on
Falkirk. The second goal was apparently an OG thanks to Fiona Kane,
however it hasn't been admitted to as of yet.
Falkirk were continuing to come back into the game, as there
was not much in it considering where both teams lie in the league. A few great
runs involving Ashley McDonald, Audrey McGrory, Angie Hunter and Vicky Yuill
continuously came to nothing, much to Falkirk's dispair. While this was all
going on Aberdeen scored another goal, and Falkirk realised that nothing was
going to go their way. A few bad decisions from the referee was adding to
Falkirk's problems and it was a case of trying to get some rhythm back into the
team.
Thinking that nothing else could go wrong, Falkirk had to
make a substitution for their keeper Fiona Melville, who is still injured and
might need to re-consider resting for a few more weeks. Vicky Yuill again
stepped up to go in goals and had a few good saves to make herself. Not long
from the end, Shirley Martin had plenty of space just yards from the half way
mark and must have seen the keeper off her line, as she had a go. The shot was
on target however not strong enough. Martin obviously thriving on scoring to
magnificent goals last weekend.
Falkirk's performance on Sunday showed they are capable of
creating chances and have the ability to do so. The confidence was lifted after
last week's draw, however there is still a long way to go. A deserved well
done goes to the girls for showing they do still have some fight in
them.
