The U-17s Defeat Dunfermline (March 23, 2008)
The U-17s played Dunfermline in their first league meeting of the season at a cold, windy Sunnyside today. With Jade and Lyndsay still out and Laura unavailable 3 of the U-15 Blue team were brought in to boost the squad.

With the wind assisting Dunfermline in the first half they won the first corner of the game which was dealt with by the defence. It was 10 mins in when Falkirk won their first corner which came to nothing. Then Dunfermline had a great chance when Falkirk failed to clear their lines but there was no power in the shot and Natalie saved comfortably. But 30 mins into the first half, in similar circumstances, the shot again didn't have much power but somehow it slipped through Natalie's gloves and trickled into the goal. 0 - 1

Falkirk kept working hard and fighting for everything and when Sarah played a long, high ball over the defence Nicky passed to Sheryl who passed onto Jen but it was deflected for a corner. A few mins before half time Laura put agrest ball through for Sheryl who passed it to Jen and she levelled the score with a well placed shot.
Half time 1 - 1

Maxine and Kerry were replaced with Kim and Hannah  due to injuries and Sarah moved to sweeper and Megan to centre half, Kim played at left back and Hannah at right back.
With the wind behind Falkirk in the second half Dunfermline were kept on the defence for most of it and within 10 mins Falkirk went ahead when Lisa played a good high ball in for Nicky who managed to score with her knee! 2 - 1

Falkirk continued to pile on the pressure to try and finish the game and came close when Hannah played a high ball in towards the box and Lisa headered it backwards for Jen whose shot was heading for the bottom corner before the keeper managed to deflect it for a corner. Dunfermline came close to scoring an og  from the corner and it was only their keeper who saved them again.

Emma came on for Sheryl at this point.
Jenny and Lisa both had chances towards the end of the game. Dunfermline didn't look like scoring and Falkirk were the stronger team. Unfortunately with 5 mins to go Natalie had caught the ball in her hands when the Dunfermline player tried to kick it and she connected with Natalie's shoulder putting an end to the game for Natalie. Maxine came back on for the last 5 mins to play keeper but had little to do.

Final Score: Falkirk 2 - 1 Dunfermline
Scorers: Jenny, Nicky

Squad: Natalie, Kerry, (Hannah), Maxine (Kim), Sarah, Megan, Lisa, Lauren, Laura, Nicky, Jenny, Sheryl,(Emma)

Thanks to Hannah, Laura and Emma who all slotted in and played some great football. Laura was tireless in her attacking and defending. She also had no hesitation to play the ball back when she saw no way forward. Hannah was solid in her unusual position of defender and made sure nothing got past her.She also made some superb passes for the strikers. Emma came on for the last 10 mins and worked hard trying to break down the Dunfermline defence.
Sarah was confident in clearing her lines after she moved to sweeper and played some great balls up the park.
Overall, a fantastic result for the team keeping them in contention for finishing in the top two in the league.
