U13 knock out Scottish Cup holders (March 22, 2008)
The U13's finally played Hibs girls in the 3rd round of the Scottish Cup this morning at Meggetland, Edinburgh. This was the third attempt to play the fixture as the game has been called off twice due to poor weather.
The Falkirk girls went into the tie knowing that they would be in a tough game as the Edinburgh side were unbeaten in South East League. The girls took this in their stride and looked composed through out the 50 minutes. The first half saw chances fall to both sides however Falkirk had the bulk of possession and were unfortunate not to open the scoring as McPhee, McCann, Donaldson and Green had chances which were well saved by the Hibs keeper. Every body in the Falkirk camp was shocked to see McCann's long range strike dip under the Hibs bar and into the back of the net with 2 minuted to half time.
Half Time - Hibs 0 - 1 Falkirk
The girls stayed focused in the second half as they knew that Hibs would put their all into second 25 minutes. Hibs broke forward on a few occassions however any threat was well covered by the back line. Falkirk continued to dominate play and were unfortunate not to be further ahead as Donaldson, McPhee, McCann and Green were all creating chances.
Hibs got a lifeline halfway through the second period as they converted a controvertial free kick from just outside the Falkirk box - Hib's 1-1Falkirk
Hibs comeback did not fase our girls as they remained calm and continued to play their well known passing game. McPhee calmed the nerves of the anxious parents on the sideline as she converted two opportunities in the final 10 minutes.
The girls ran out 3-1 winners beating last years Scottish Cup Winners and progress into the quarter final of the cup.
Well done everyone!!
