U-17s win with 10 players (March 16, 2008)
The U-17s faced today's league cup game against Celtic Tayside with only 10 players as Lyndsay is still injured, Maxine and Jade are ill, and Natasha and Megan were unavailable. Everyone at Falkirk Ladies wishes Jade a full recovery after her admission to hospital. HOPE YOU GET WELL SOON JADE!
The game was played at Larbert High due to Sunnyside still being unplayable and the girls started the game on the attack with a 3-4-2 formation.
Falkirk had their first chance to open the scoring in the first 3 minutes when Lisa played a lovely ball over the defence for Nicky whose shot was saved by their keeper. A few mins later Laura tackled at the half way line and won the ball, she then passed a great through ball for Sheryl whose shot hit the bar and rebounded and Nicky was unlucky not to reach it before the defender. On 10 mins after some good work between Lisa and Nicky, the ball went to Laura who placed her shot in the corner of the goals. 1 - 0
It was Celtic who should have got the next goal when Natalie had to come out to try and clear at the edge of the 18 yard box but she missed the ball and the Celtic player had an open goal to aim for. Fortunately she hit it wide.
On 20 mins Kerry picked up the ball deep in her own half and took it up to the half way line where she passed a great ball through for Sheryl whose shot left their keeper no chance. 2 - 0
Celtic weren't really troubling our defence but on 30mins their player was allowed too much space at the edge of the box and her strike left Natalie no chance. 2 - 1
Just before half time Falkirk extended their lead again after great fighting from Sheryl in the corner she managed to get her cross over and Nicky headed home our third.
Half time 3 - 1
Not long into the second half Nicky dribbled past two players on the left and her shot hit the post and fell in the box. Laura was unlucky not to get her second but the keeper managed to get the ball first.
Falkirk were continually pressing even although the girls were tiring and when Lisa was unfairly brought down outside their box it was Nicky who took the free kick and her shot went into the top right corner. 4 - 1
Sheryl could have made it 5 when Nicky put in another great cross which only needed a touch. However Sheryl's touch just put it over the bar.
Laura came close to her second when she received the ball from Lisa but her shot went just wide.
10 mins before the end Celtic scored with another long distance shot which left Natalie no chance. 4 - 2
At this point Jenny, Sheryl and Kerry were all struggling with their injuries and Kerry came off leaving 9 players for the last few minutes.
Final Score: Falkirk 4 - 2 Celtic Tayside
Scorers: Nicky(2), Laura, Sheryl
Squad: Natalie, Kerry, Sarah, Kim, Lauren, Lisa, Jenny, Nicky, Sheryl, Laura
Subs: ?????
The 10 girls put in a tremendous display after their hard, physical game and disappointment of last week. It was great to see Laura back to her scoring ways with her first goal in her second game this season. Hopefully the squad should be back to full complement next week for a league game against Dunfermline.
