Dundee City 3 - 3 Falkirk LFC
Falkirk travelled to Dundee City with what would have been
regarded as a weaker team, with their goalkeeper, Fiona Melville out with a bad
ankle injury.
The game got off to a good start for Falkirk with Audrey
McGrory making a few strong runs up the right wing. However Dundee City opened
the scoring with a decent strike 20yards out from goals, and the wind ushered
the ball over stand-in keeper, Vicky Yuill's head.
Not long after that goal, Angie Hunter was in on
Dundee's goal with a great through ball from Shirley Martin and Angie's
strike straight at the keeper.
Dundee's second goal, 5 minutes from half time, came
from a good corner and with the help of the wind was floated in to the area
and Falkirks right back, Gemma Kirkwood heeled the ball into the back of the
net. Dundee City 2, Falkirk 0.
The second half got underway and again Audrey McGrory made a
few decent runs up the right wing, again nothing coming of these. Falkirk's
first goal was from an Ashley McDonald cross and Angie Hunter getting
on the end of it with her head, a great goal. Falkirk's spirit being lifted by
that.
Dundee City were pushing on as they realised that Falkirk
were not going to give up, and were through on goal when vice capitano, Laura
Bryce slide in and got the ball, however the referee was not in a good position
and much to the disgust of the Falkirk players and management gave a
penalty. Vicky Yuill got down to her left very quickly and made a great save,
however Dundee were quicker to react to the rebound than the Falkirk players.
Dundee City 3, Falkirk 1.
From this Falkirk retaliated by making some great pushing
runs up front and from this, Audrey McGrory was brought down not far from the 18
yard line and Falkirk were given a free-kick. Shirley Martin took the free-kick
and floated the ball over the defence and the goalies head. Great free-kick from
Shirley. Dundee City 3, Falkirk 2.
After Falkirk's quick celebrations, they were on the attack
again. And once again, Dundee giving away a free-kick in much the same place as
before, and Shirley Martin standing up to take the free-kick floated the ball
over the keeper again. Another trademark free-kick from Shirley Martin. Dundee
City 3, Falkirk 3.
Again Falkirk were on a high and continued to try for the
winning goal. And with another strong run from Audrey McGrory, the right
midfielder was brought down and the defender was sent off for persistent
fouling. Shirley Martin stepping up for this free-kick once again, however this
time did not manage to float the ball into Dundee's goal.
Game finished Dundee City 3 - Falkirk 3, with a brilliant
come back, with Falkirk showing great determination.
