U-17s Edged out of Scottish Cup (March 09, 2008)
The U-17s travelled to Petershill today to play Rangers in the quarter final of the Scottish Cup. The girls started the game strong and it was all Falkirk for the first 10 minutes. The first half was a close fought battle with no team having any real efforts on goal. Sarah came closest when her header from a corner went wide. But Falkirk were closing down quickly and preventing Rangers from playing their passing football.
Half-time 0 - 0
In the second half Rangers started the stronger and were beginning to string some passes together and find themselves in space. It only took a few minutes into the second half for them to score 1 - 0. Rangers were now dominating the game and 10minutes later made it 2 - 0 when again the Rangers player was given too much space to shoot.
This seemed to have an effect on Falkirk and they started to pass the ball and put pressure on the Rangers defence. Jenny struck a great free kick into the box and Sarah's header was saved by the keeper.
Sub - Kim off and Megan on.
Falkirk were still fighting and not giving up and it was Jenny who closed the Rangers girl down at the half way line and won the ball. She then lobbed the ball over for Sheryl to run onto and she duly lobbed it over the keeper. 2 - 1
Sub - Laura off and Jade on.
A few mins later Sheryl found herself through on the keeper who diverted her shot and it looked like Nic was going to level the score but the defender got there first and put it out for a corner. Nic swung the corner in and it was Maxine who got her head to it but could only watch as it went wide.
Final Score: Rangers 2 - 1 Falkirk
Scorer: Sheryl
Squad: Natalie, Kerry, Maxine, Sarah, Kim, (Megan) Lisa, Lauren, Nic, Jenny, Sheryl, Laura, (Jade)
Sub not used: Natasha
The girls put up a tremendous display today and were unlucky not to force the game into extra time. They worked hard but Rangers out played them for a 15 minute period at the start of the second half in which they scored 2 goals and Falkirk failed to convert all their chances.
