U13's- Strathclyde Girls 1-8 Falkirk GFC (March 01, 2008)
U13's- Strathclyde Girls 1-8 Falkirk GFC

Falkirk GFC U13's faced Strathclyde Girls for the third time this season and came away with a convincing 3victory on Saturday 1st March.    Falkirk started the game well and went 1-0 up within 4 minutes.  Rachel Donaldson delivered a testing corner which the Strathclyde goal keeper fumbled and diverted into the back of her own net.    Within another  4 minutes of play Louise Green got her name on the score sheet as Nicole Mcphee delivered from the left and Green calmly slotted past the goal keeper.  Falkirk dominated the first half and Strathclyde rarely posed any threat.  Striker Green added to her tally when Mcphee cut the ball back for Kayleigh McCann. McCann's well struck shot was well saved however, Green reacted well and tapped in the rebound.  Mcphee saw alot of the ball in the first half and her tricky feet and pace resulted in her 3rd assist, as she delivered another cross for Donaldson to convert 5 minutes from half time.  The first half action was not over as Rachael Donaldson bagged her second in 22 minutes.  A Strathclyde Girls kickout was well met by captain Aimee Thomsons and her header was knocked into the path of Donaldson by McCann .  Donaldon then took a great touch, cut inside and found the back of the net with ease.

Strathclyde got a goal back with seconds remaining in the first half from a well struck free kick from the edge of the Falkirk box.

Half Time - Strathclyde 1 - 5 Falkirk

The Falkirk goal keeper was changed at half time with Mackie replacing McCann and first half keeper Kearney slotting into the centre of midfield.  The second half saw Kearney netting twice and Donaldson celebrating her hat-rick.

Full Time - Strathclyde 1-8 Falkirk

The game was good preparation for the squad as the girls travel to the capital next Saturday morning to face Hibs in the Scottish Cup 3rd round.  The girls continue to play exciting football and are creating and converting many goal scoring opportunities.

Well done to all of the girls for a good performance and another 3 points.  Kearney's second half performance was powerful and showed great flexibility to the squad.   Special mentioned should be made of Rachie Donaldson as she performed very well and netted a great hatrick.

Next weeks game against Hibs Girls is at Meggetland, Edinburgh - 11am kick off. All support is welcomed by the players and coaches.  If you would like to come along and support the girls  please contact Fiona for further information.
