Falkirk Reds U15 Take All 3 Points (August 25, 2007)
Falkirk's newest team got off to a winning start today when they travelled to Old Kilpatrick and beat Drumchapel Girls in the league.
The girls were nervous to start with but soon got into the rhythm of the game and made some early chances. But Drumchapel got the early lead from a long ball over the Falkirk defense. However the girls rallied straight away and a great cross from Robyn Graham was finished at the back post by Megan McClure.
Drumchapel quickly recovered and looked the much more composed team and raced to a 4-1 lead on half-time due to a lack of concentration & some poor clearances. The half-time talk re-focused the players and minutes after the re-start Megan once again got on the end of another crossed ball and finished cleanly.
Falkirk now had Drumchapel on the back foot and striker Dion McCusker quickly piled the pressure on scoring two quick goals to bring the game back to 4-4! But this seemed to wake the home side up and they surged forward on the attack. The Falkirk goalkeeper Ellise Mitchell pulled off a great save from a 1v1 situation but the Drumchapel girl followed the ball up and 5-4.
With only 10 minutes remaining it looked as if Falkirk's comeback was over but the girls pushed again and Dion slotted away another goal for her hat-trick and it was level again. Now both sides looked content for a draw but with only 2 minutes remaining Robyn drove forward again and played in substitute striker Lisa Laird who calmly picked her spot to make it 6-5!
Drumchapel had one more attack in the dying seconds and their left winger dribbled into the box only to be stopped by a one-handed save by Ellise yet again. The referee blew his whistle and Falkirk had won their first match!
Coaches Alison, Annmarie & Kerry had nothing but praise for the whole team whose efforts were stunning from start to finish.
